Dangers in Pursuing a Raw Food Diet

Starting a Raw Food Diet Plan

Before you get started on your raw food adventure, you’ll want to have a plan in place. You’ll begin by recognizing what your current food habits are. Do you already consume any raw foods?

How about salads? Some salads have had preservatives or pesticides added in, but eating salads is a good start toward a raw food future, even if it’s imperfect. Do you eat sushi?

Many people think sushi is raw food, but it’s often not. Not fully, anyway. The rice is cooked in it – and sometimes the fish is partially cooked to some degree, so it may not be wholly raw.

It’s good to see what kind of habits you already have that you can salvage whenever you make the switch to a raw food meal plan. You don’t want to be miserable without your favorite foods, so you have to start planning to turn non raw foods into raw versions.

For example, if you love salsa, but you’re used to buying it in a jar, you can still have it – you just have to learn how to make it from scratch using fresh, raw foods!

Plan your switch carefully. If you are serious about making this change, but you worry about going back to your old ways, then consider gradually immersing yourself into this lifestyle.

You can replace a meal each day, or have a day of the week dedicated to raw foods at first. Then as you go, add more raw food meals to your weekly plan until that’s all you’re eating.

Another way some raw foodies do it is to start by dividing up their plate at each mealtime with raw and cooked portions of foods. It’s kind of like those diet plates where you see carbs, proteins, and fats for example.

In this case, you might want to start your raw diet plan by simply making sure that ½ of your plate has raw foods on it, and the other half can be cooked foods that you’re use to. Over time, increase that amount to ¾ until your whole plate is filled with raw goodies.

Raw Food Diet Benefits

Some of the  benefits of following a raw food diet will not only make you healthier but can also make you feel better about yourself.

You might have every good intention in the world of eating healthy – you shop for vegetables and fruits, thinking you’re making sure that you get all the right vitamins and minerals.

But the way that you prepare your  foods can actually destroy most of those benefits you just put in your grocery cart! Vitamins like C, which boost your immune system and B, which give you energy, are severely degraded during the cooking process.

A raw food diet can help you lose weight. Fruits and vegetables in general will be filling to you, but they’re even better in satiating your hunger when eaten raw as opposed to cooked. You can have an unlimited amount and it will contribute to your fiber intake, helping you achieve a better fat flush.

Gaining more energy is another important benefit of the raw food diet. Most raw food followers will choose an array of foods to implement into their diet – every color of the rainbow, maximizing their exposure to vitamins and minerals that reverse their deficiencies and get them back to fatigue-fighting levels.

Another benefit from eating a raw food diet is to help in delaying of the natural aging process.  Anytime we alter foods, we destroy their natural benefits. One of those common benefits is antioxidants and anti aging rewards from eating healthy. You may also notice that you will have better skin and more vitality soon after you begin your diet.

Why finding the right diet solution can make a big difference

The right diet solution can make a big difference in the way you feel and look.

Part of eating a healthy diet is in looking at what you eat now and making the necessary changes to turn it into something healthy. Although this may initially seem like deprivation, it allows you to keep a similar eating pattern but improve what it gives you in terms of nutrition. It is as much about a shift in mindset as anything else.

A Global Solution To Healthy Eating

October 9, 2011 by

If you are like many people today, you feel that the hassle with healthy eating is simply that it is simply not exciting enough. While salads and vegetables are all well and good, there is little sparkle to them. And while this is a view that is easy to sympathize with, the honest truth is that there are plenty of interesting options if you know where to look. Sometimes all you need is something a little bit different.

Geography, remarkably, is something that has a bearing on typical diets. In many western countries, the climate is cold and rainy, and we are used to eat heavier foods that are not so easily digested – we are expected to have a little more “meat on our bones”. And so conversely, trying cuisine from a hotter climate might be the key.

India, for example, is a country where the weather is invariably hot, and spice is a major ingredient in the cuisine of that country. Partly this is because it grows there and is easily affordable, and additionally spice in a diet makes it more readily digestible and doesn’t add fat. Good Indian food is a very advisable option in a healthy diet.

Of course, any food if eaten to excess will cause you to gain weight. But mixing up your diet to give it an international flavor will keep things interesting, give you a level of nutrients which will be good to your body and will get you thinking about food in a different way – which will be desirable in the long run.

Dieting Can Be Good For Your Health

There is no greater reason for dieting than for your own personal health and well-being. Those who are overweight know better than most the risks and consequences that may result because of your weight. Just like smokers however, the risk does not always seem very cut and dry until we reach our very own turning point. If your eating habits are born of an addiction to certain foods, emotional needs, or years of learned behavior and conditioning things will not change until you completely adjust your eating habits and your lifestyle choices.

Health benefits of drinking water for weight loss

It is not at all uncommon to meet a person who cannot understand why they are unable to lose weight, and curses the fact that although they are eating all the right things, their weight hangs around the “few pounds overweight” barrier. They will tell you all of this and wonder what they are doing wrong, and in the next few moments will take a gulp from a can of soda, a glass of beer or something similar, and admit on questioning that it is their third of the day or night.

Now, it is far from impossible to maintain a healthy diet while continuing to enjoy the occasional glass of wine or can of soda. Neither is it unthinkable to stop drinking these things entirely, but it is not compulsory. However, it is important to realize that issues with weight gain or weight loss can often be down to what you drink as much as what you eat. You will not be at a healthy weight if you drink a bottle of wine a day, or get through a family-sized bottle of soda.

If you have to have a drink with food, then often a glass of water will be the best option. There are more reasons for this than just the weight issue. A glass of water will keep you from getting thirsty and will help you enjoy the meal, but will not interfere with the taste. And if you are thirsty, a glass of water is the best thing you can drink – it replenishes the body’s hydration levels and allows you to enjoy the occasional glass of wine or soda more, because you get to really savor the taste.

Eating Disorders–The Disturbing Truth

August 13, 2011 by
Filed under All you need to know

The most disturbing “alternatives” to eating healthily are unfortunately, eating disorders. Most commonly, anorexia is chosen by people who feel that healthy eating still has too many calories involved. Although associated primarily with teenage girls and young women, anorexia is not limited to that section of society.

Although it is generally accepted that the only truly reliable way to avoid weight gain is to eat healthily and exercise, the truth is that for many people, this seems like a hell of a grind. It takes a lot of effort, and it can be a while before you see substantial results from it – so taking a short cut becomes more attractive.

Bulimia, a disorder from the same family as anorexia, is becoming more and more common. Bulimia sufferers will eat where anorexics starve themselves, and will often binge to the point where they are uncomfortably full before inducing vomiting to ensure that food is not digested. While both anorexia and bulimia do allow sufferers to lose weight and keep it off, they carry very real dangers.

Although being slim is considered to be the glittering prize by many, it is at a price. If you are not eating the right nutrients, or are purging them through vomiting, it is impossible to keep clear, healthy skin and hair, and your energy levels will go through the floor. It is also unlikely that anorexics or bulimia sufferers will get to a point where they feel thin enough, and many can go to the point of killing themselves through malnutrition.

One of the best ways to protect your child from developing bulimia or anorexia is to make your home a safe place. You want them to be able to feel, communicate and learn how to respond to their emotions.
